Liquid CO2: The Process

Liquid CO2 (LCO2) cleaning is a process similar to vacuum degreasing, but it utilizes carbon dioxide as the cleaning "solvent" under pressure. This cleaning method is ideal for precision devices and components with complex geometries. Traditional aqueous and solvent-based cleaning methods often struggle to remove contaminants from intricate surfaces, as they can become trapped in tiny crevices, making them difficult to expunge. LCO2 overcomes this by using its low viscosity to flow effortlessly through narrow spaces, efficiently rinsing surfaces and leaving no residue behind.

When CO2 is pressurized, it remains in liquid form, and our systems use a specialized cleaning vessel where liquid CO2 can rinse parts and devices. The process works by bonding with contaminants and pulling them away from the surface. Once the cleaning is complete, any remaining CO2 evaporates, leaving the parts dry and clean. Additionally, this environmentally friendly process is a closed-loop system, recapturing and reusing CO2 for subsequent cleaning cycles, reducing waste and enhancing the cleaning efficiency.nd what is listed below and can make a system to match your particular need.

The Enertia Series by CoolClean

The enertia™ system is a fully integrated liquid CO₂ cleaning solution that combines both cleaning and recycling within a single compact unit. It features a high-purity stainless steel cleaning module, available as either a top-loading basket centrifuge (CFx) or a front-loading tumbler (GFx) precision system, both equipped with semi-automatic closures.

An integrated CO₂ recycling and purification system ensures fast, continuous, and energy-efficient cleaning. The programmable additive injector simplifies the removal of stubborn contaminants. For enhanced performance on tough residues, the optional High Boiling Solvent (HBS) package—standard on the GFx—delivers exceptional cleaning results.

Standard features include PLC process control with a graphical user interface, along with easy-to-load stainless steel parts baskets. Custom cleaning baskets and fixtures can be designed to securely hold components, maximizing cleaning efficiency.
